Figures released by the Environment Agency revealed Southern Water pumped 5,606 hours’ worth of raw sewage into the River Itchen, River Meon, River Hamble and River Test in 2021-2022.
The water company also made an operating profit of £138m in the same period.
Unlike most rivers, the River Itchen, Meon, Hamble and Test are 4 of just 210 chalk streams in the whole world, meaning they are home to a host of rare animals such as water voles, white-clawed crayfish, and otters.
The Conservative Government are letting Southern Water get away with it.
Southern Water needs to clean up this mess and stop dumping sewage in into Hampshire’s Rivers.
It's time for a sewage tax on their annual profits to improve our sewage system and protect the River Itchen.
